GEA has been manufacturing pneumatic conveying Systems for more than 40 years and has the experience to select the best system for each product and application.
GEA develops advanced powder handling solutions and high-quality components for the food, dairy, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. We have the know-how, experience and technology required, including a broad range of components, to configure the best powder conveying system for your product.
From non-friableand non-sanitary powders through to high-value, fragile pharmaceuticals, GEA can supply all the components and systems required.
Both standard and fragile powders can be transported using pneumatic conveying systems. These systems are normally divided into four types depending on whether the material is blown or vacuumed through the pipe, and if the solids-to-air ratio is high (dense phase) or low (dilute phase).
Our Dense Phase Conveying Systems are specifically well-suited for the conveying of agglomerated and fragile powders, using state-of-the-art technology to provide the most gentle and reliable means yet which leads to minimal breakdown of the powders and the thereby the small increase in powder bulk density.
Our system meets all hygiene standards for food and dairy applications. And, when necessary, thedense phase vacuum conveyingsystem can be atmospherically sealed, evacuated and filled with an inert gas as part of a modified atmosphere packing solution.
Easy to install and simple to use, clean and maintain, the low product velocity means minimal damage to the powder particles, and because only small quantities of air or gas are used, filters are small and easy to service.
Pilot Plant Testing:
Customers wishing to evaluate our solutions with their products are welcome to use GEA’s in-house testing facilities.
The Powder Handling Pilot Plant is the latest addition to the state-of-the-art Soeborg Test Centre. The expansion includes a 4-in-1 pilot plant for the pneumatic transport of powders, capable of conveying powder according to all four pneumatic transport modes (dense/lean phase vacuum/pressure mode) using GEA equipment. It is complemented by an FT4 Powder Rheometer for predicting powder behavior, and PowSIM, our in-house developed software for dimensioning pneumatic conveying systems.
The Powder Handling Pilot Plant is an important milestone and a testament to our dedication to our customer success and innovation.
Key Customer benefits:
Moreover, our facility also enables customers to discuss their specific requirements with our powder handling experts and gain first-hand experience regarding the operation and maintenance of our solutions.

Dense phase pressure conveying systems use compressed air to push materials from a single or twin pressure pot system through a pipeline to a destination where the air and product are separated.
Lean or dilute phase pressure conveying systems use positive displacement blowers —providing air at up to 0.6 Barg — to convey materials through a pipeline to a destination where the air and product are separated by a filter.
Dense phase vacuum conveying systems use high capacity vacuum pumps (up to 99% vacuum) to convey materials from a feed hopper or silo to a receiving vessel or vacuum hopper where the air and product are separated by a filter. When the vessel is full, the vacuum is isolated and the conveyed product is discharged into the destination silo. The prod...
Lean or dilute phase vacuum conveying systems generally use positive displacement exhausters to provide a vacuum (up to 50%) to convey materials through a pipeline to receiving vessel where the air and product are filtered and separated. Lower capacity fan-based systems are also available.
