The GEA ecomarine separator offers significant savings in energy costs. Compared to traditional filter options, operating costs (OPEX) can be reduced by up to 50 percent. In addition, energy consumption is significantly reduced by using the ecomarine Separator: with a power consumption of only one to two kW per unit, it is an energy-efficient solution for customers. In addition, a low separation temperature ensures a further reduction in overall energy consumption and significantly improves the carbon intensity indicator (CII).
Another advantage of the new GEA ecomarine Separator is its lower disposal costs. They are up to 80 percent lower compared to traditional filter options. In addition, the GEA ecomarine Separator provides continues and unlimited water treatment, unlike conventional filters that are subject to limitations. As the ecomarine Separator does not produce any contaminated waste, the costs for disposal are significantly lower. This not only helps to reduce costs, but also contributes to sustainability.

The GEA ecomarine Separator is easy to install and maintain. With its direct drive integration and 360° accessibility, the ecomarine Separator delivers superior performance per unit area, surpassing traditional filter technologies. The automation system is simple and robust. No process water connections or sludge tank connections are required. Only individual seals need to be replaced during maintenance. Maintenance of the drive is simplified by an exchange process, which is covered by an extended GEA warranty of two years or 16,000 operating hours, whichever comes first. Cleaning the bowl is also quick and easy for the ship's crew. GEA separation technology handles high water loads in lube oil without the risk of clogging, eliminating the frequent need for replacing and disposing of filter cartridges, a common issue with traditional filter systems.
The GEA ecomarine Separator’s compact design and small footprint minimize installation space on board and reduce the need for spare parts in the ship's inventory. In contrast to filters that require replacement cartridges in the inventory and additional storage for used ones, the ecomarine Separator minimizes onboard space requirements.
GEA is one of the world’s largest suppliers of systems and components to the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
The international technology group, founded in 1881, focuses on machinery and plants, as well as advanced process technology, components and comprehensive services. For instance, every second pharma separator for essential healthcare products such as vaccines or novel biopharmaceuticals is produced by GEA. In food, every fourth package of pasta or every third chicken nugget are processed with GEA technology.
With more than 18,000 employees, the group generated sales of about EUR 5.5 billion in more than 150 countries in the 2025 fiscal year. GEA plants, processes, components and services enhance the efficiency and sustainability of customers’ production. They contribute significantly to the reduction of CO2 emissions, plastic usage and food waste. In doing so, GEA makes a key contribution toward a sustainable future, in line with the company’s purpose: ”Engineering for a better world.”
GEA is listed on the German MDAX, the European STOXX® Europe 600 Index and is also a constituent of the leading sustainability indices DAX 50 ESG, MSCI Global Sustainability and Dow Jones Best-in-Class World.
