多效蒸馏允许重复使用供应给系统的能量。能耗可按相当于有效数的系数高效降低。由于在重沸器中进行热传递需要有温差，因此会对可以使用的有效数产生限制。一般来说，最高和最低温度由产品、热蒸汽压力和冷却水温度决定。
