GEA presents carbon capture solutions for CO₂ reduction at the Carbon Capture Technology Expo

October 23, 2024

GEA is a platinum sponsor of the Carbon Capture Technology Expo in Hamburg. At the world's leading trade fair for industries working intensively on carbon capture, GEA is presenting the possibilities of carbon capture technologies as a key solution on the road to net zero emissions. The trade fair and conference will take place from October 23 to 24, 2024 at the Hamburg Messe exhibition center (Messeplatz 1). GEA will be showcasing its latest carbon capture product range and services at booth 4D15 in hall A4. GEA experts will be on hand to provide further information and interactive live demonstrations. GEA representatives will also be giving two talks in the conference forums to share their expertise and to network.

"Cost-efficient and low-risk entry into carbon capture technology" - presentation by Dr. Felix Ortloff

"Cost-efficient and low-risk entry into carbon capture technology" is the title of the presentation by Dr. Felix Ortloff, GEA Senior Director Carbon Capture Solutions, on October 23, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 10:25 a.m. This presentation is part of the conference theme "Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage and Blue Hydrogen.

GEA with many years of experience in air and exhaust gas purification

GEA is a leading global supplier of exhaust gas cleaning solutions and has in-depth knowledge of gas cleaning and heat recovery processes. GEA's carbon capture portfolio now expands our already established range of gas cleaning and heat recovery plants with technologies for CO₂ separation as well as options for CO₂ transport and CO₂ utilization. GEA thus offers all customers and interested parties a comprehensive product portfolio.

CO₂ can be separated from gas streams using various methods - either by separation before or after combustion or by oxyfuel processes. GEA focuses on CO₂ separation downstream of combustion, as it can be retrofitted to existing plants and the impact on upstream processes is reduced to a minimum.

Modern CO₂ separation concepts use aqueous amine solutions as solvents, as these have been proven to work reliably and perform well. The GEA solution portfolio for CO₂ separation is therefore based on state-of-the-art amine solution systems and combines them with GEA's unique scrubber technologies in a highly standardized design concept that enables fast delivery of an economical CO₂ separation solution. GEA's goal is to make CO₂ separation a viable solution that is widely applicable and can be integrated into existing infrastructures. By collaborating with customers and leveraging its technical expertise, GEA aims to unlock the decarbonization potential in target industries.

GEA's Carbon Capturing Solutions: Process steps for optimal and economical CO₂ reduction

The GEA Carbon Capture Solutions portfolio with the amine-based CO₂ capture process and options for CO₂ separation, transportation and recycling expands GEA's range of established gas purification and heat recovery technologies. GEA is committed to developing cutting-edge carbon capture technologies that enable customers in industries such as cement, steel, glass, waste-to-energy and bioenergy to accelerate their transition to a low-carbon economy. GEA's portfolio of carbon capture technologies enables complete, fast and cost-efficient adaptation to future industry standards. It consists of the following units:

GEA XECO® waste heat recovery systems

The use of excess heat from industrial processes and flue gases is the first step towards Carbon Capture & Utilization. The excess heat can be collected with the help of the GEA GEA XECO® waste heat recovery systems and transferred to the carbon capture plant.

SETO gas pre-treatment systems

An important prerequisite for carbon dioxide capture is flue gas pre-treatment to ensure the long-term stability of the carbon dioxide capture system. GEA SETO technology offers various solutions for cooling and condensation, removal of solids, aerosols, sulphur and nitrogen oxides and more.

CEBO® carbon capture systems

Currently, the most mature process for large-scale carbon capture is chemical absorption with amines. GEA offers amine-based CO₂ capture plants in various sizes as part of the GEA CEBO®-series, which enable CO₂ capture from a very wide range of exhaust gas compositions.

NAVO® CO₂ usage & sequestration

Captured CO₂ must replace fossil carbon in order to avoid anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. This can be achieved by using CO₂ to manufacture CO₂-based products or by liquefying and sequestering CO₂ in long-term storage facilities, both with the help of GEA technologies.

Julia Keller in the panel: "New ecosystems for carbon capture and storage business models and their potential to accelerate net zero"

"New ecosystems for carbon capture and storage business models and their potential to accelerate net zero" is the title of the panel in which Julia Keller, GEA Senior Director Carbon Capture Solutions, will participate as a speaker. The panel will take place on October 23, 2024 from 15:45 to 16:30 as part of the "Strategic Forum". Together with other speakers, Julia Keller will discuss how carbon capture projects can be structured while minimizing risks as well as investment and operating costs.
