CO2 saving processes

Waste gas heat exchanger

Energy saving is a key success factor having a major impact on your balance bottom line. Increase economic and ecological efficiency implementing energy recovery units in your industrial process.

The Waste Heat Recovery Unit (WHRU) absorbs the waste heat that results from production or gas cleaning processes. The unit contains several tube banks, the amount depending on the required cooling temperature. The tubes contain a carrier fluid which absorbs the heat from the gas with high efficiency.

This setup allows for a flexible configuration with an ORC module to transform the heat energy into power or other valuable energy sources.

The heat exchanger process is following a counterflow design, where the gas inlet finds itself at the top of the WHRU unit and is discharged at the bottom. The carrier fluid passes through tube bundles and gets heated up before leaving to the ORC module.

If the WHRU is to operate with crude gas from production processes, feeding of lime hydrate can prevent the formation of sodium pyrosulfate (Na2S2O7) and sodium bisulfate (NaHSO4) at the tube banks. A ball cleaning system (using metal balls in a closed system) has proved a good addition to stop substances from baking at the tube banks.

Key features

  • High serviceability
  • High flexibility of the various modules, ideal for retrofitting in narrow spaces
