Sludge dewatering with GEA decanters for efficient and sustainable water management

Water
With worldwide population growth and the resulting growing demand for fresh water for communities, agriculture and industry, the challenges of meeting global water demand with innovative technologies are also increasing. Whilst the demand for fresh water is rising, its availability is falling and the global water crisis is exacerbated not only by climate change but also by environmental pollution. In addition to water treatment of ground and surface water, the trend is therefore also increasingly towards the production of drinking water from salt water.
GEA decanters in processes for the desalination of seawater and the treatment of ground and surface water

Centrifugal separator technology plays a key role in the production of drinking water. GEA decanters have established themselves here as a sustainable solution in the process of seawater desalination and in the treatment of surface water. They provide optimal results with the greatest possible saving of water and energy, thus contributing significantly to a sustainable global water supply.

Volume-reduced sludge reduces costs for disposal and transport

To reliably remove impurities from surface water and seawater, treatment plants are generally preceded by various chemical and mechanical purification processes. Sludge sedimented accordingly, which must be disposed of on the basis of their organic contamination, are accrued here. GEA decanters reliably separate the accrued sludge into solids and reusable water. Thanks to their high dewatering performance, they are able to concentrate the solids to a high content of dry matter, which results in a considerable volume reduction and thus accordingly lower disposal costs.

Top reliability due to robust structure

To avoid corrosion permanently even in the case of extremely high chloride ion content in the seawater, we use only high-quality materials for the construction of our decanters. All parts that come into contact with the product are therefore made of duplex/superduplex steel and offer maximum reliability.

 Advantages:

  • Decanter technology for concentrating sedimented sludge
  • Volume-reduced solids with high dry content
  • Low transport and disposal costs
  • Greater drinking water yield
  • Robust structure due to use of corrosion-resistant materials
