Fuel oil treatment and conditioning for engine-based power plants

Power plants are responsible for the important job of securing the energy supply. Whether electricity or heat, it all has to keep moving, around the clock. Because without power, literally nothing works. To keep all switches in power plants to "On", every source of risk must therefore be excluded. In particular, this includes contaminants in fuels for the diesel engines. In the course of operation, these contaminants can have fatal consequences. The solution is effective treatment system from GEA.

Why fuel cleaning?

The light, medium and heavy fuel oils used as fuel for the diesel engines are usually mixed oils or oils left over from the refining process. These leftovers generally contain an elevated proportion of the wear-increasing components known as cat fines. The product can also absorb further contaminants from the transport and storage chain. If these oils are combusted in a diesel engine without being treated beforehand, this can result in severe wear on injection nozzles, fuel pumps, cylinder liners and pistons.

The consequences are:

  • Leaking valves
  • Coking of the combustion chamber accompanied by reduced cooling performance
  • Corrosion
  • Erosion

Treatment systems with GEA separators put a stop to these undesired consequences: solid foreign substances such as sand, rust and cat fines are as reliably separated as free water, consequently ruling out encrustation and burning together of important parts of the engine. The service life of cylinders, pistons, nozzles and feed pumps is considerably increased. Against this background, even lower-grade oils can be used as a fuel without any concerns.

ViscoBoosterUnit - Complete system between service tank and engine

With the ViscoBoosterUnits, GEA  offers a complete, compatible system for a safe and economic fuel oil treatment from the service tank to the engine.

ViscoBoosterUnits are supplied as package systems. They are designed for 24-hour unattended operation.

This unit consists of a treatment system that meets the fuel requirements between the clean oil tank and injection system for the diesel engine in terms of the required injection viscosity and temperature. Supply and booster pumps are provided for a stable system pressure.

Key Benefits:

  • Easy adjustment to the engines in operation
  • Higher availability of the complete installation
  • Simple switch-over to HFO / MDO for each engine
  • Easy adjustment if the system is upgraded later
