Evaporation Technology
Own state-of-the-art test facilities for laboratory and pilot plant testing in the hands of our skilled R&D engineers. Backed by the solid expertise won over many decades of innovation pursuit.
Resulting from many decades of ongoing research and development work, tied with the experience gained through several thousand installed plants, GEA offers the broadest technical expertise and undisputed skill to understand and develop the best thermal separation solution for almost any product, evaporation rate, operating condition or application.
With state-of-the-art pilot plants and test benches, our Evaporation Test Centers are optimally equipped for a wide range of testing in the field of evaporation technology.
GEA's physics and chemical laboratory is designed to determine and analyze important properties such as viscosity, boiling point elevation, thermal conductivity and total solids concentration. Moreover, complex quality parameters can be determined with GC and HPLC.
The latest software and hardware allow us to simulate the optimal operating behavior of the plants according to individual customer specifications.
GEA R&D offers:
Among the latest software and hardware for control and automatization, following pilot plants are available for testing:
Mobile plants can be controlled and monitored with a remote-control system, allowing for the tests to be performed directly on our customers` premises while the process data can be electronically recorded and analyzed.
We also have the possibility to combine different pilot plants to develop entire process lines according to the customer's needs (e.g. membrane filtration, distillation, evaporation, centrifuge, decanter, dryer, etc.).
Best suited for temperature-sensitive products and liquids with small amounts of solids and going up to high concentrations
For applications involving large throughputs of process solution with a relatively low concentration factor and other applications.
Skid-mounted Falling Film and Forced Circulation Evaporators for small-scale production. Energy efficient, easy to transport and assemble.
Concentrated food products need to be sterilized before they can be stored, packed or dried.

The world's population is growing and with it demand for milk. Dairy is an essential component of many global diets. However, its production can be resource-intensive and impact the environment. GEA’s Christian Müller, Senior Director Sustainability Farm Technologies, sheds light on how technological innovations powered by GEA make milk production more efficient and profitable.
Every safe beverage and bite of food is a victory against invisible microbial threats – a battle shaped by a century of hygienic process design. With more than 100 years of engineering and hygienic design know-how, GEA sets the industry standard for processing equipment that protects food and saves lives.
Engineering innovation often takes the form of incremental gains. Once in a while, it takes a leap. Case in point: The washing machine. Launched in September 2022, two new GEA software solutions are upending convention and delivering similarly dramatic efficiency gains in the resource-intensive process of membrane filtration.
