GEA ComboGrind

Great combination of self-feed with high-speed final grinding

Pulsation-free grinding

We know that you rely on GEA to supply equipment and solutions that will give robust, reliable processing, at every stage. We’ve developed the industrial GEA ComboGrind grinder with infeed-hopper and agitator, to offer consistent, reproducible coarse and fine grinding, for a range of product types. Engineered for long life and trouble-free operation, the hygienic unit features stirring wings that rotate slowly as product is fed into the grinder, giving you pulsation-free grinding and consistent results.

Main applications

GEA ComboGrind | Self-feeding industrial fresh meat grinder main applications

The GEA ComboGrind is available with either a 3- or a 5-piece knife, so you can be flexible and produce consistent hamburgers, pepperoni, salami, ground sausage and other ground meat products.

Consistent high-quality grinding

  • Gentle agitation helps to ensure constant grinding flow, without larger meat trimmings
  • The 1500l or 800l hopper can hold up to one ton of pre-ground meat, for industrial-scale throughput (features not benefits)
  • Different versions available, including short worm version to pre-grind and grind tempered meat, and long worm version for coarse and fine grinding of fresh meat

Flexibility and modular design

  • Operator friendly, modular design with easily exchangeable parts, to help reduce down time and delays
  • Clamp system for fast mounting and dismounting of grinding heads
  • (Dis)assembly by one operator using the cleaning trolley for the processing worm and cutting tools
  • Hygienic design with curved corners and smooth surfaces facilitates thorough cleaning

GEA original high precision cutting tools

  • 250 mm cutting set with positive cutting angle for clean cutting and excellent grinding
  • Fixed pre-cutter to reduce pressure on knife set, and so reduce wear and heat build-up
  • Wide range of cutting tools available, including cylindrical or conical hole plates
  • GEA's knives with replaceable inserts achieve great particle definition, every batch

Advanced technology
Flexible loading

Because no two setups are the same, we’ve designed the ComboGrind to allow hopper loading from any of 3 sides. The unit can also handle full Eurobins or Combos of trimmings or pre-blends. This gives maximum flexibility for your production environment.

Rotating feeding wing

The slow rotating agitator wing feeds the grinder-worm continuously, which prevents the product from bridging inside the hopper. This helps to ensure a constant product flow, and so retain product quality and reduce loss.

Additional equipment

Additional equipment for GEA ComboGrind
Hard particle sorting device

We can supply the GEA ComboGrind with an optional hard particle sorting system that automatically removes bone chips, connective tissues and other hard particles, but with minimal meat loss. This clever system collects and accumulates the particles at user-defined and programmed intervals, then pneumatically ejects them before returning to its collecting position. The stroke frequency can also be easily adjusted to help ensure an optimal ejection/yield ratio.

Booster pump

The GEA ComboGrind can also be fitted with an optional GEA BoosterPump positive displacement pump module, which sits between the worm and knife set. This technology helps to boost capacity and eliminate backwash, which improves particle definition and product contrast. It can also increase capacity by up to 100%, even when using small-hole plates and processing viscous products.

Focus on automation

We realize that industry is increasingly focused on the benefits of automation to reduce manual intervention, improve product yield and quality, and reduce loss. The ComboGrind can be sited on weighing cells, as an option for integration into fully automated preparation lines. We can also configure the equipment with options including differential speed dosing with weighing systems, and level and temperature controls, to further support your automation goals. --> bullet points

GEA loading & handling equipment

Using our buffering and belt transport equipment to distribute the premix means the product can be transported to the next stage in the process by simply pressing a button. Our transport systems also eliminate the need for manual handling and for storing trolleys in the preparation area, which saves on time and space, and helps to reduce delays.
