Top performance, minimum footprint

GEA RedAstrum

As demand for efficient heating rises, GEA RedAstrum is the standard ammonia screw compressor heat pump meeting that demand across a variety of applications. Known for its wide capacity range as well as its high temperature lift, it features high-end components and a sophisticated, compact design.

GEA RedAstrum Heat Pump – our multipurpose ammonia heat pump

Designed to perform efficiently to a multitude of purposes, the GEA RedAstrum heat pump range is aligned to the successful GEA BluAstrum concept and equipped with heat exchangers that can be configured and optimized according to each project’s requirements. Its tried and tested components deliver state-of-the-art performances as complete heat pump or refrigeration systems for medium heating, refrigeration and/or air conditioning capacities in various fields of application:

  • Hot water or fluid for industrial heating processes
  • Combined cooling or air-conditioning and heating applications in industries or communities
  • Facility and district heating
  • Cooling and refrigeration with heat recovery

GEA RedAstrum Ammonia Screw Compressor Heat Pump – Top performance, minimum footprint

Our second generation of ammonia screw compressor heat pumps features optimized design, a new ammonia cascade evaporator option and an extended model range: GEA RedAstrum heat pumps are available in seven screw compressor types based on the successful GEA Grasso M and GEA Grasso LT series in a specific high-pressure design.

Combining the benefits of reliability, low ammonia charges, and minimum footprint, GEA RedAstrum heat pumps offer flexible and efficient performance for a variety of purposes. Designed in a modular fashion, they are comprised of the following main modules:

  • Screw compressor package in high pressure design
  • Heat exchanger subassembly with integrated liquid separator and de-oiling system
  • Low-voltage installation with frequency inverter and control

The components are arranged to ensure the most compact heat pump design possible. Every GEA RedAstrum heat pump is manufactured and delivered according to technical specifications, making it possible for us to offer optional design variants based on the standard modules. The heat exchangers are designed according to the parameters of a project, with a view to maximum energy efficiency on the evaporator and the condenser side. GEA RedAstrum ammonia screw compressor heat pumps are delivered ready for connection, fully piped, and wired.

Highlights and technical features

The GEA RedAstrum heat pump offers maximum efficiency in transferring heat to a liquid heat carrier, providing industrial applications and local or district heating networks with supply temperatures between +55 and +80°C / +131 and +176°F – higher temperatures being available on request. The GEA RedAstrum’s wide temperature range enables it to use heat from waste, ground, or surface water between -10 and +50°C / +14 and +122°F or even secondary refrigerants for combined cooling and heating applications. Alternatively, it can be equipped with a cascade evaporator charged with hot ammonia gas directly from a refrigeration plant – using the wide temperature range for maximally efficient waste heat recovery.

The GEA RedAstrum offers a wide capacity range from approximately 750 to 2.900 kW / 2,559 to 9,895 MBH. Additional features include:

  • High efficiency and low energy consumption
  • Future-proof with the natural refrigerant ammonia (R717) – in accordance with the F-gas regulation, the initiative for the prohibition of F-gases
  • Fully welded shell & plate heat exchanger
  • Various plate materials available, all common liquids supported
  • Efficiency-optimized configuration with minimized energy costs and CO2 emissions
  • Minimum footprint, comes in one piece
  • Unit ready for connection, easy installation, minimum maintenance
  • Stepless capacity control via frequency inverter (variable speed range 1,500 – 3,600 rpm, R models with 3,300 rpm max. speed) and slide system
  • Industry-leading controller technology with GEA Omni
