Waste oil & oily waste water

Industrial sectors that work with large numbers of machines will need to store, transport and dispose of large amounts of waste oil, which increases with every oil change. Disposal of this waste oil is associated with significant cost. As an alternative, waste oil can be converted into a valuable resource using GEA’s centrifuges. The treated oil can be used as a high calorific value secondary fuel in certain sectors of industry, or as a base oil for the production of lubricants. This not only saves valuable resources, but also cuts costs.

Making the best of it

The differing origins and compositions of waste oil mean that its water, oil and solids content can vary considerably. GEA’s high-performance decanter centrifuges and separators offer suitable solutions for any waste oil separation requirement.

Decanters are used primarily when there is a high solids content. A self-cleaning separator can then be installed downstream to polish the valuable liquid phase and separate the finest solid particles and water. This high degree of separation generates oil that can be sold as a base oil for power generation, rather than be disposed of at considerable cost. This cleaned waste oil is in demand as a fuel by the cement industry and in metallurgical works, for example. The waste water created during the process no longer contains oil and can be disposed of with minimum impact on the environment.
