Liquid fossil fuel has traditionally been the base of countless products that societies around the globe rely on, already for decades now. This includes plastics, colorants and fertilizers.
The low price of crude oil continues to impact on efforts -both entrepreneurial and financial- to develop and implement the bioeconomy through bio-based chemicals or white biotech. This creates a barrier to developing scalable models for using renewable feedstocks, affecting pricing and competitiveness.
