More than just a spray dryer

VERSATILE-SD® and Versatile Spray Dryer, FSD®

Sometimes you just need to be versatile. If you want to launch a new food concept or produce small batches of high-value products, or you have a wide range of products and need to do frequent product changes, a standard dryer might not be what you need. That is why we designed the GEA versatile spray dryers to give you flexibility for today and tomorrow as well.

The VERSATILE-SD® spray dryer (VSD) has proved its value for producing high-quality powders for advanced ceramics, polymers, catalysts, pharma products and a wide range of food ingredients, including flavors and herbal extracts. It has a modular design so you can configure it for different plant capacities and product requirements.

The air temperature can be adjusted as necessary to produce consistent powder quality without causing thermal stress to sensitive products. And it is easy to operate, clean and switch between batches. You have the option of choosing from several atomizing and exhaust configurations allowing you to maintain optimum production whatever product you’re drying.

The VSD is available in five different sizes ranging from VERSATILE-SD® size 6.3 to a VERSATILE-SD® size 80 (10-320 kg/h water evaporation). We can also offer small-scale units such as our trusted MOBILE MINOR® for R&D and PRODUCTION MINOR®  for pilot projects. All the dryers are designed to meet the strictest standards for plant and product safety whatever product is being processed.

The VFSD

The Versatile Spray Dryer, FSD® (VFSD) takes versatility one stage further. It is a multi-stage dryer with an integrated fluid bed under the drying chamber. This allows you to create coarse agglomerated powders that are free-flowing and dustless. It is particularly useful for sticky, hygroscopic and heat-sensitive products. The compact design means its footprint is much smaller than dryers with external fluid beds.

VFSD dryers are available in a variety of configurations to match each application. They are available in six sizes (5 to 265 kg/h water evaporation) and the FSD MINOR® for R&D projects.

Both the VSD and VFSD dryers are available at the GEA Test Center in Copenhagen so you can evaluate processes and select the ideal size and configuration of the equipment.
