Versatile Powder Packing System
The GEA SmartFil M1 is designed to meet the needs of food manufacturers with diverse product portfolios. From fine powders to coarse granular products, there is a solution to meet most packing requirements.
The GEA SmartFil M1 has been developed to provide a wide range of filling configurations to meet the diverse needs of the food industry.
Low-capacity filling solutions require flexible configurations for handling a wide range of products and packaging formats. A modular system that can be easily adapted for packing fine powders through to coarse granular products is ideal, and provides maximum utility in a compact package.
The GEA SmartFil M1 features configurable product metering options, including vertical auger and horizontal vibratory feeder, that can be selected based on the product to be packed. An optional deaeration probe may be added for improved consolidation of the product if required.
Customers can choose to pack into open-mouth bags, boxes or drums of varying sizes and the built-in height adjustable conveyor system makes packaging changes fast and simple, whilst allowing the operator to work at an ergonomic height.
Product safety is important to our customers - even at low production volumes. The sealed filling head is designed to prevent product contamination whilst ensuring the safety of the machine operator. A bag preparation station enables the operator to safely close the top of the bag before presenting to the closing system.
Closing is configurable dependent on packaging type. Continuous heat sealing with glue reactivation or with sewing is available for open-mouth bags, whilst impulse sealing is offered for hermetic sealing of plastic packaging.
A simple operator interface is easily configured to adjust the key filling parameters and closing functions.
The stainless-steel design is durable and low maintenance.
Bags are manually loaded onto the filling head and clamped in place using a footswitch operation. A second press of the footswitch starts the filling process where the bag is filled until the target weight is reached. The lift conveyor assists the removal of the full bag from the filling head and conveys it to the closing station. At this point a second bag can then be loaded onto the filling head and the filling process re-started. The operator then reforms the neck of the bag, ready for presentation to the sealing system. A footswitch operation is used to feed the bag into the sealer where the bag is automatically sealed and the closed bag presented to the downline.
GEA powder samplers have been designed to complement the powder filling systems we supply. Our auger sampler can take representative powder samples at the point where the powder enters the bag even when packing in inert atmosphere conditions.

GEA manufactures a range of sampling systems to suit sanitary applications, we use dynamic sampling. Superior methods of powder sampling are obtained by using procedures where the sample is removed from a moving powder bulk.
Fully automatic powder filling for low production capacity plants. The HYGiPac R1 ensures high quality filling of sensitive food powders are rates up to 3MT/hr.
